Clovis West High's girls, led by gold medal performances by sisters Nikki and Nonny Okwelogu and Anginae Monteverde, placed third as a team at the Nike Track Nationals in Eugene, Ore.
The Golden Eagles' eight-member group scored 7,759.62 points to finish behind Chandler (Ariz.) Track Club (8,096.71) and Long Beach Poly Track Club (7,881.48). Twelve teams competed in all.
Nikki Okwelogu, a sophomore, won the shot put in a school-record 42 feet, 111/4 inches, senior Nonny Okwelogu captured the discus (150-10) and Monteverde took the pole vault (12-6) in a meet that ran in conjunction with the USA Outdoor Championships during the weekend.
Nike financed travel, lodging and food for the team and two coaches in a meet staged at Oregon University's Hayward Field.
"The girls were treated as stars," Clovis West coach Martin Palavicini said. "They had personal lockers with their names on them and were given shoes, warm-ups and uniforms.

The Eagles, coming off a runaway Central Section team title, also received a fourth and a sixth from Alyssa Monteverde in the 100 high hurdles (14.16) and long jump (17-8), seventh places from Katherine Kass in the mile (5:10.60) and Taryn McDonald in the high jump (5-13/4), a ninth from Paris Turner in the 400 (1:00.80) and an 11th from Lauren Sharwood in the 800 (2:23.13).
